Oh hi from 3.5 months postpartum life! Gotta say, keeping up with weekly newsletters and posting on Instagram just gets bumped to the bottom of my to-do list these days... sooo bear with me while baby girl is the focus of my day, ALL day long (and she’s amazing, and mom life is awesome). Ok, I’m starting to think the cottage cheese trend might have gotten a little out of hand. I’ve tried some of the high protein cottage cheese desserts, and a few were just weird with a texture that was kind of gross (like this lava cake... NOT good). But I do love that cottage cheese is a fantastic protein source that isn’t meat-based. It doesn’t work for everyone since a LOT of my clients struggle with dairy intolerance (more on that below), but if you tolerate dairy, it’s such a sneaky way to get that extra protein in! Not a fan of cottage cheese?Personally, I’m not a fan of straight-up cottage cheese. I’m amazed by people who can eat a whole bowl of it, or eat the plain single containers. I need the taste hidden. If you’re in the same boat with the texture, blend it! Once it’s smooth, it disappears into sauces and batters, and you’d never know it’s there. I got this mini 2.5 cup chopper and it’s PERFECT for blitzing a cup or two without dragging out the big blender. And SO much easier to scrape out (I also use this chopper for sauces!). Here are 5 cottage cheese recipes I’ve saved that I want to make soon:
Hit reply and tell me which one I should make first, and I’ll report back on whether it’s a winner (or another lava cake situation…). Dairy intoleranceMany of my clients come to me with digestive issues - but whether we’re working on bloating, IBD, hormones, acne or something else, gut health is very likely the first place we start anyway. The bad news is that we often start by cutting out dairy like cottage cheese... the good news is that many people can bring it back into their diets once we’ve lowered inflammation, healed the gut lining and rebalanced the gut microbiome! So here’s what you need to know: cutting out dairy is NOT a one-size-fits-all rule. I wrote an entire newsletter about when I recommend cutting out dairy and when to leave it in - read it here. That’s all from me for now! I’m not taking on any more new clients just yet while I soak up these baby days, but I’ll be opening up spots again in the next few months, and you’ll hear about it here. Until then, don’t forget to reply with your cottage cheese recipe pick so I know what to experiment with and will report back! Strength training is everywhere right now - which I’m super happy about! Other than the obvious aesthetic benefits, lifting weights also improves many other systems in the body. Here's what research tells us about strength training: ✨ Muscle preservation outlasts other fitness adaptations - you lose strength more slowly than stamina or flexibility after a break ✨ Hormonal benefits - improved testosterone in men, better hormonal balance in women, which directly impacts mood and anxiety ✨...
Here's my first newsletter since having a baby 7+ weeks ago! I'm frantically typing up this newsletter while baby Teja is still sleeping... I mentioned on my belly growing post on Instagram that I would share more details & photos from my birth on this more private platform... so ready or not, here it is. We were lucky to have a home birth - it's so interesting how everyone has their own preferences for where they feel safe. I knew that I would feel much safer at home than I would at a...
Still pregnant as I write this... it's Tuesday 6/23 and baby is now over a week late, which feels like the universe giving me a lesson to surrender! Baby will come when baby is ready, and all I can do is let go and trust the timing... so we'll see when this little one decides to make an appearance! Last weekend we celebrated a small Blessingway. In case you've never heard of one, a Blessingway is a sacred ceremony traditionally practiced by the Navajo people to honor and support a woman as...
