If you’ve been using a Brita pitcher and feeling proud of your “clean water” habit… I get it. They are cheap and accessible, and better than nothing! I used one for years, too. But here’s the thing: Brita mostly improves taste - not toxicity. And that’s a problem, especially when you consider what’s actually in your tap water. (Scroll down for a website to understand what’s REALLY in your tap water!) In 2023, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Brita, accusing the company of misleading consumers about the effectiveness of its filters. The claim was that Brita gives people a false sense of security - implying that its pitchers protect against harmful contaminants like PFAS, lead, and other toxins… when they really don’t. According to the Environmental Working Group, Brita’s standard filters reduced PFAS levels by approximately 66% in their tests. While this is better than nothing, it's significantly less effective than other filters on the market. For example, some filters achieved nearly 100% reduction of PFAS in EWG's tests. Here’s the article where EWG compared various counter-filter brands. Why this mattersHydration is foundational - but your drinking water may be one of the biggest sources of toxin exposure in your day-to-day life. Tap water can contain:
Recent reports show that 45% of U.S. tap water contains PFAS, and over 9 million lead pipes are still in use across the country. Long-term exposure to these can affect your skin, gut, hormones, and brain. But is your tap water actually that bad?Want to know for sure? 👉 Head to ewg.org/tapwater Pop in your ZIP code and see what’s actually in your water. Most of my clients are shocked when they do this! So what filter should you use instead?Let’s break it down: 1) Gravity-Fed Filters (Berkey or BOROUX)
2) Reverse Osmosis (AquaTru)
3) Advanced Countertop Pitchers
The bottom line:Clean water is an investment. Brita might be better than nothing - but it’s not good enough if you care about what’s actually in your water. If you’re drinking 8+ glasses a day, don’t you want to know it’s clean? In health, -Daina P.S. This is one of those questions I get ALL the time from clients. Because yes… organic is more expensive. And no… it doesn’t automatically make food “perfect.” But when you actually look at the research, there ARE some clear differences that matter - especially if you’re working on gut health, hormones, skin, or reducing your overall toxic load. I’ve started running toxin testing on clients, and I often see environmental chemicals like pesticides elevated, even for those who live relatively...
We just got back from a trip to Mexico, and one of my favorite parts of traveling to tropical places is how much time we spend outside. The only time we’re NOT outside is when we’re sleeping. It feels SO good. And yes - part of that is the mental/spiritual side of being in nature… but it’s also doing a lot more for your body than most people realize… including your blood sugar. Why sunlight is good for blood sugar A study published in the Journal of Biophotonics looked at what happens when...
I GOT QUOTED IN AN ARTICLE 😎 And it brings up something bigger than just one brand. You may have seen the recent conversation around Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Dunkin'. The question RFK Jr. raised was simple: Are ultra-sugary coffee drinks actually appropriate for teenagers? And instead of having a grounded, nutrition-based conversation, the response quickly turned into defending the brand. Let’s take the politics out of it for a second… This isn’t about who said it - it’s about whether it’s...
