Here's what my gut said after 3 rounds of antibiotics😬

Hi Reader,

Remember when I mentioned I had to get a tooth extracted a few months ago? Let’s just say it’s been a process. And yes, I’ve been embracing the pirate smile vibes.

To be honest, I thought it would look a lot worse. Thankfully, it hasn’t been too bad.

What has been bad, though, were the three rounds of antibiotics I had to take to clear the infection before the extraction. That infection was stubborn.

Even with my gut-health tricks (like high-dose probiotics and extra fiber), I knew those antibiotics likely wreaked some havoc on my gut.

So, post-surgery, I decided to test my gut health using the GIMAP stool test that I use with clients to assess the damage.

The results? Not surprising, but definitely eye-opening.

1// GOOD MICROBE INSUFFICIENCY

Take a look at this: my “good” bacteria are on the low side. Yep - those antibiotics wiped out my microbiome.

This is important because your good microbes don’t just hang out - they crowd out the bad guys. Without enough of them, there’s room for pathogenic microbes to take over.

Luckily, that hasn’t happened to me (yet), but I’m not taking any chances.

My approach: I’m focusing on feeding and growing these good microbes with extra fiber and polyphenols, while steering clear of foods that harm the good bacteria.

2// POOR FAT DIGESTION AND LOW ENZYMES

Here’s the other surprise from my gut test:

  • Elevated Steatocrit (which means I’m not absorbing fat properly).
  • Low Elastase-1 (a marker showing my enzyme production is struggling).

Yikes. That’s definitely a sign for extra support.

My approach - I’m adding two go-to supplements:

  • Beta TCP to boost bile flow and fat digestion.
  • Critical Digestion, a potent enzyme formula that helps break down proteins, fats, and carbs for optimal digestion.

Right now, my digestion isn’t terrible, but I knew I needed to do some damage control after those antibiotics. Proper gut health is foundational - it impacts everything from brain function to skin health and even fertility.

Have questions about any of this? Just hit reply - I’m happy to chat.

In health,

-Daina

Even though the IDEA of drinking enough water should be simple… in the middle of a busy day, it’s easy to forget. It feels a lot easier (and more fun) to stay hydrated when you have a water bottle you actually want to carry around. Investing in a good-quality water bottle - or even just keeping a 32oz mason jar nearby - makes a huge difference. It helps you keep track of your intake and makes sipping throughout the day more intuitive. (Bonus: you won’t be scrambling to refill your glass every...

You really want to avoid tea bags that look like this! Hey Reader, This one’s for my fellow tea lovers (which, honestly, feels like many of you, because multiple clients have brought this up recently, so it’s time we talk about it!): What’s the deal with tea bags and microplastics? Are they really that bad? Let’s break it down. Microplastics = Macroproblem Microplastics are everywhere - in our food, water, air, clothing, and yep, even in our tea. And they don’t just pass through the body...

We hear it all the time: Balance your blood sugar…. Avoid huge blood sugar spikes… But what does that actually mean?! And why does it matter beyond the usual mentions of weight gain and energy crashes? Blood sugar imbalances don’t just make you hangry - they set the stage for poor gut health, skin issues, fatigue, stubborn weight, and even accelerated aging. And here’s the kicker: if blood sugar is dysregulated long enough, it increases your risk for chronic disease. Let’s break it down....
